Mission

Cultivating Youth’s mission is to tackling childhood trauma and prevent gun violence in youth ages 8-18 years old through physical fitness, education and mentorship while building confidence and nurturing mental health.

Daughters Beyond Incarceration’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for every daughter with an incarcerated parent to live. Girls ages 8-18 that reside in low-income communities in New Orleans join our program and become youth advocates. We do this through mentorship, support, public education and advocacy.

Nola Youth Sneaker Ball Partnership

Daughter Beyond Incarceration and Cultivating Youth are both working to ensure that the young people in our city have a safe space to escape all the chaos and traumatic stressors that comes with growing up in New Orleans. It is a challenge to grow up in New Orleans. Everyday a young person is committing suicide, being killed, committing violent crimes, experiencing homelessness and are likely to be affected by a generation of incarceration or at risk of becoming incarcerated themselves. As reported by WWLtv, “The spike in juvenile violent crimes in New Orleans isn’t just anecdotal. Statistics obtained exclusively by WWLtv revealed the harsh reality, violent crimes by juvenile offenders aren’t just on the rise, it’s hitting record levels. Juvenile felony arrests in New Orleans have more than doubled in three years, from 300 in 2016 to 735 last year.” Compounded with the daily stressors of life, our youth need an outlet.

Purpose

The purpose of the NOLA Youth Sneaker Ball is to be a connector between youth programs, jobs and resources for youth across the city of New Orleans. This FREE event is open to youth ages 13-18 that reside in New Orleans and surrounding areas. We know that most youth express themselves through their own personal style, this idea, from our youth, is a great one! To support the youth currently in our program, this will be the perfect opportunity to grab the youth’s attention, sign them up for any of our youth programming partners, all while having good clean fun! We are encouraging all local youth-based organizations to be a part of this event by setting up informational tables and allowing youth to register on site.
